Is The Next Step In Computing The Cloud?

These days, be it personal or business related, social media now accounts for a large part of our lives. Some great advice on the basic points of social media and how it can benefit your business comes from Matthew Trewhella, social media expert for Google. He explains why cloud computing is so important, and it's link with business continuity. Cloud computing can cover a couple of different things. Whether you're a business or consumer, you will most likely have a different approach to it. The cloud is basically the internet, so it's internet computing, Amazon, IBM, Google etc all have cloud computing services and use It collaboration. Its big advantage is that you're not hiring physical hardware so you can scale up and down as you need. So if your load suddenly goes up you're only paying for what you're using right now, if the load suddenly goes down again you haven't got a whole host of machines sitting idle. It also means none of the data is kept on your computer, thereby automatically keeping a backup of your data on servers that are far more secure and reliable that your computer. The best part of this is that if your computer breaks, your data, applications etc are stored on large company servers, in a secure databank. This means all you need to do is get a new computer, get on the net and your back.. For example, Google Docs allows you to create documents online, you can type up, or you can write a report or maybe use a spread sheet. If your computer explodes it doesn't matter, because the next time you get on the internet that document will still be there as it was stored on Google's servers. Some other benefits are that you can share documents with other users and invite them to collaborate. This eliminates the issue of multiple copies of documents and is great for IT collaboration. Once real time editing is done, and your document is finished, you can easily publish it as a web page or share it via the network to other users.
